1. What's the right size boot for my horse?

It is so easy to choose the correct size Marquis Supergrip.

2. Is it difficult to put Marquis Supergrip on?

No, due to the flexible front flap of the hoof boot, it can be entirely opened and so making it easy to insert the whole hoof. It is very easy to put Marquis Supergrip on and off. See using supergrip: instructions.

3. How much air needs to be pumped into the air chamber?

Enough to hold the boot securely, the hoof must not be able to slide backwards in the boot. To start with, put enough air in the chamber so that it is difficult (but still possible) to squeeze your fingers between the bulbs of the heel and the air chamber. It will take a little trial and error to find the correct amount of air, this is why we insist you build up the use gradually! See using supergrip: first time

4. When you first get the boots, how can you tell that everything is OK, that you have the right size? Here is a simple check:

1) Fit the Marquis Supergrip boots as per the instructions. Remember to check that the hoof is as far forward as it will go, BEFORE closing the front flap and inflating the airbag. Put enough air in so that the airbag is pressing snugly against the heel bulbs. To start with, put a little too much air in the air chambers rather than not enough. If the horse is uncomfortable, then let a little air out.

2) Trot the horse up and down for a few minutes and check that the hoof has not moved within the boot (open the front flap and ensure it is still all the way forward). If it has moved, inflate the airbags more.

3) Try some light exercise. If everything seems OK, then gradually over a number of days build up the use of the boots.

Remember, if at any stage you have any concerns or questions, do give us a call.

5. How long do Marquis Supergrip last?

Marquis Supergrip can last very long, as all pieces subject to wear and tear are easily replaceable.

6. Are they guaranteed?

Yes, they have a 6-month guarantee.

7. Do I have to repair the boots myself?

No. You can send the boots back to us to replace worn parts or for a complete service and clean. They will be returned to you looking as new - even if they are years old! If you wish, you may of course order the spare parts from us and repair them yourself.

8. Do the boots rub?

The patented air-bag system means Supergrip offers the snuggest, most secure fit. Supergrip boots are ideal for the majority of horses straight out of the box, however for those "special" horses that need a little extra pampering, we provide a range of neoprene insoles and teflon impregnated socks.

9. How long does it take for my horse to get used to Marquis Supergrip?

Most horses are comfortable in the boots right from the start. Some pick their feet up higher than normal for a few minutes (rather like when travel bandages are first put on).

10. Can they be used over nailed on shoes?

The Supergrip boots are designed for use on unshod horses. They are based on the principle that an unshod horse is healthier and happy. When using the Supergrip, there is no longer a need to nail shoes to your horse's hooves. Whilst they could be used over nailed shoes, they may not stay in place as efficiently.

11. Can the hoof boots stay on 24 hours a day?

In general any hoof boot should not be left on for more than 12 hours. However, with veterinary or farrier guidence in remedial circumstances the boots can be used for longer.

12. Can I use them for competing?

They can be used in any competitive sphere, for example, eventing, showjumping, driving, endurance. However, we don't make the rules, so if in doubt, check with the organisers.

13. Can I ride through water with the Supergrip boots?

Yes, the water does not affect the boots in any way.

13. Do the hoof boots stay on in deep mud?

Yes, the patented air chamber system ensures the Marquis Supergrip is securely yet comfortably fastened.

14. Can the Supergrip boots be used in snow and ice?

The boots offer far superior grip to nailed shoes, and have the added advantage that snow does not ball up in the sole. For extreme conditions (e.g. Norway) upto grass studs can be used.

15. Is it easy to wash the boots?

Yes, the boots can be easily and quickly washed with water and a brush. They can be shined using the Marquis hoof boot spray polish.

16. My horse has flat soles, can I still use the boots?

The Supergrip boots offer TOTAL protection for the soles, but because they are removed after riding, they do not soften or weaken the sole, and there is no problem with thrush. Extremely sensitive soles can use the special neoprene insert. Because the hoof is no longer prevented from functioning, it may be found that the shape improves.

17. My horse has contracted heels, will the boots still fit?

Yes, the patented air chamber ensures a good fit with any width heel. Once the nailed shoes are removed, the improved hoof function should, with the assistance of remedial trimming from a skilled farrier, improve in shape. As it does so, the air chamber will ensure that the boot continues to fit snugly and comfortably.

18. My horse has cracked or crumbling hooves, can I use the boots?

The boots are ideal for this type of hoof, because there is no longer any need to further weaken the hoof wall with nails. A competent farrier can remedial trim more frequently if necessary to encourage healthy hoof growth. As the hoof can now function as it was designed to, blood supply will increase and horn quality should improve.

19. My horse has navicular syndrome, is it a good idea to use the boots?

One of the main causes of Navicular is the long-toed/low heel imbalances which is more common on shod horses, partly because of the lack of natural wear and the infrequent trimming intervals…The syndrome is exacerbated by concussion on hard ground. Supergrip helps in two ways - the unshod hoof is able to wear naturally, and a skilled farrier can assist a speedy return to a healthier balance with frequent trimming, without having to continually remove and replace nailed shoes. Secondly, the design of the boot reduces concussion. Also, because there is no longer any need for nailed shoes, the hoof can function properly which increases blood flow and speeds recovery.

20. My horse has got laminitis. Will the boots help?

Supergrip are recommend by several veterinary universities in Germany for use on horses with laminitis. One of the many advantages is that the hoof can be trimmed as often as necessary, without continually driving new nail holes.

21. My horse has boxy feet or a club foot, will the boots still fit?

Yes, the combination of the flexible front and the patented air chamber ensure a good fit on any shape foot. Because the unshod hoof is no longer prevented from functioning, and can be trimmed more frequently it may be found that the shape improves.

22. My horse has low/high heels, will the boots still fit?

Yes, we can adjust the boots to fit the majority of horses, but if you are concerned then take a look at our how to draw a template page, to see how to measure the heel height. Then give us a call and we'll discuss any necessary adjustments.
